“Skyrim with mods looks better” is what a lot of people are saying towards The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, said after commenting how disappointed they are after watching recent gameplay footage that was released from select Youtubers who managed to play the game on PC, and I honestly think that statement and/or the way of viewing the situation is stupid.
It’s not the first time people are saying similar statements for a game, but it certainly won’t be the last to call it idiotic. The reason why I say it’s idiotic is because of course it would look better in some or most cases, comparing a stock product to another one that’s been modified by consumers who want to make it as great as it can be, but if you compare a non-modified old game to a new game that’s graphically superior, then it is graphically better and that’s fact.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is graphically superior than CS: Source, Grand Theft Auto V is more graphically impressive than GTA IV, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (looking at recent gameplay videos) looks more graphically powerful than Skyrim.
Install an impressive graphics mod to CS: Source, then it would most likely look better than the default look of CS: GO, same with the other games above. But stop and think for a second, if you want to say “Skyrim with mods looks better” then here’s my reply: Witcher 3 with mods would probably look even better than that.
You see where I’m going with this? There’s no good point in saying X with mods looks better than Y, that’s just admitting that the game you like or admire doesn’t look as good as the game you’re having a disappointment over its visuals.
But that’s how I see this whole scenario, and if your opinion is different than mine and you see fault in it, then I’d love to read what you’d have to say about it. I’m probably the idiot one here.
