QuakeCon 2015: Bombshell Hands-on Impressions

We got hands-on with 3D Realms and Interceptor Entertainment’s top-down shooter Bombshell over at the QuakeCon 2015 event, and the first thing that we’ve noticed is that the perspective felt like Diablo. There’s a handful of guns to choose from and there’s a skill tree where you can add points that you get from completing a level to increase either your health or armor, or learning a new ability to use in combat like Power-dash or Power-punch.

Aside from shooting aliens in a top-down perspective, there was this turret you can hop on to use at a certain point, and when you do get in it to take control of it, the perspective changes to a third person style shooter which was kind of cool.

The progression felt like a more linear campaign compared to Diablo’s somewhat free-roam levels. Regarding the story, we don’t want to say much but to put it bluntly it’s basically like Duke Nukem but not so much comedy.

It’s still got some work to do before it becomes a good polished game, but in general it was a fun game to play. We also asked a few questions and where learned that Coop alongside an expansion will be available post-launch, and there will be mod support.
