Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is “Copying” Other Games, But is That a Bad Thing?

With the release of the gameplay reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 today, a lot of gamers and developers are noticing the obvious ‘inspirations’ the game has, and a lot of those who noticed them are mocking / poking fun at the game and its creators for taking these massive inspirations. But joking aside, is it a bad thing that the game is taking inspirations or copying other games?

The Call of Duty series before Advanced Warfare was mainly on the ground running around and shooting the first person you see with the weapon that you’d be holding, but with the last COD and especially the new one that’s coming out, the game has slightly changed and is playing around with new used ideas, mixing the gameplay a bit and keeping it somewhat refreshing.

Looking at the series’ latest product which is Advanced Warfare, it’s somewhat the same game as the previous one in terms of its structure and play style, but adding the ability to boost up in the air for a short amount of time, where because of it added new possibilities of playing the game, adding a new dimension to the gameplay however small or big it might have been.

Looking at Black Ops 3, sure it’s taking ideas from other games, but I think that’s probably a good thing with the idea that it’s slightly or massively above from being the same old Call of Duty game. They’ve took the story idea and other elements from the Deus Ex series where a future of extensively modifying human bodies is a reality, that idea that they’ve taken opens up more fun ideas to be implemented in the game like the player’s hand transforming into a weapon. They’ve took an idea from Titanfall (which is taken from another game) where you would have more maneuverability by running on walls, which seems like a lot of fun to me and adds even more interest to the gameplay.

Even though they’re taking big obvious inspirations, they’re are taking it for a reason, and that reason is that it’s interesting and fun, implementations that add more complexity to the basic structure and nature of the game. Black Ops 3 copying / taking inspirations of ideas and features from other games is not a bad thing, in-fact it’s the opposite, whether one dislikes and / or disapproves of the “copying” actions that the game is taking, it is making the game better, thinking that the game is good in the first place.

Also, I hope they are so far in the future that they can finally have dedicated servers with a server browser on PC. Anyway, that’s my thoughts on the matter, if you think the opposite of the direction the game is taking, then say so with the reasons behind your thoughts.

Don’t forget the Bioshock ripoff of plasmids. Insect Swarm and Incinerate which were both shown in the reveal trailer.

Black Ops 3 is an embarrassment. It no longer resembles a proper war game. After AW and now this, mature gamers are going to start to walk away. This may be popular for a couple months for gamers 10-15 years old.
